UPAYA PENINGKATAN KESEHATAN GIGI ANAK SEKOLAH MELALUI EDUKASI MENYIKAT GIGI DAN PENUMPATAN ART DI UPT SDN 066428 SIDOMULYO

Abstract

Oral and dental health problems among school age children remain relatively high, particulary dental caries caused by low knowledge and poor oral hygiene behavior. Based on preliminary observations at UPT SDN 066428 Sidomulyo, most student did not understand the proper toothbrushing technique and had a high incidence of dental caries. This community service activity aimed to improve students knowledge and skills regarding proper toothbrushing technique and to provide atraumatic restorative treatment (ARR). The methods used included oral health education, toothbrushing demonstrations, mass toothbrushing activities, dental examinations, and ART fillings for 34 students in grades III and IV. Evaluations was conducted using pretest and posttest questionares. The results showed an improvement in students, knowledge after the educational intervention. Before the education session 29% of student had good knowldg, 21% had moderate knowledge and 50% had poor knowledge. After the intervention 94% students had good knowledge and 6% had moderate knowledge. Dental examination results showed an averadge of 3 carious teeth per child before treatment. Of the 102 carious teeth identified , 22 teeth received ART filling , reducing the average caries rate to 0,6 teeth per child. This activity waseffective in improving students, knowledge and behavior regarding oral and dental health maintenance.
