Abstract

ABSTRACT

Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological problem among young women and often interferes with daily activities, concentration, and academic performance. Non-pharmacological interventions such as Benson relaxation are widely used to reduce pain perception by inducing physiological and psychological relaxation. To determine the effect of Benson relaxation on reducing dysmenorrhea pain intensity in female students. This quantitative study used a single-group pre-experimental design, namely pretest-posttest. A total of 35 female students who met the inclusion criteria participated in this study. Benson relaxation was given for approximately 15 minutes in a quiet and comfortable place. Pain intensity before and after the intervention was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. There was a significant decrease in dysmenorrhea pain intensity after the Benson relaxation intervention (Z = -5.257; p < 0.001). Before the intervention, most participants experienced moderate pain (54.3%) and severe pain (45.7%). After the intervention, the pain level decreased to mild (57.1%) and moderate (42.9%).
