Abstract

Maternal and neonatal health remained a major public health concern in rural communities due to limited maternal health knowledge, inadequate access to health information, and insufficient physical activity during pregnancy. This community service program aimed to improve maternal and neonatal health through an integrated health education and pregnancy exercise program conducted in the maternal class at Kerjo Lor Village, Ngadirojo, Wonogiri. The program was implemented using a community-based participatory approach involving 25 pregnant women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. The intervention consisted of maternal-neonatal health education sessions and routine pregnancy exercise activities conducted over four weeks. Evaluation was performed using pre-test and post-test assessments and participant observation. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in maternal knowledge, with the average score increasing from 61.20 to 84.60 after the intervention. Most participants attended all program sessions and reported better childbirth preparedness, reduced physical discomfort, and improved health behaviors during pregnancy. The integrated education and pregnancy exercise program was effective in enhancing maternal and neonatal health and had the potential to serve as a community-based promotive and preventive intervention model in rural areas
