PEMBERDAYAAN KELUARGA MENGATASI BALITA TENGGELAM MENJADI SOLUSI DI WILAYAH RAWAN BANJIR

Abstract

Flood-prone areas have a high risk of toddler drowning incidents, which can be fatal if not managed properly. Limited knowledge and preparedness among families are key factors contributing to this risk. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of community health cadres and families in handling emergency cases of toddler drowning through a community empowerment approach. The program was conducted in RW 09 and RW 14 of Citeureup Village, Dayeuhkolot District, Bandung Regency, and consisted of two stages: cadre training and family assistance. A total of 14 cadres participated in the training, while 28 families with toddlers were involved in the assistance phase. The results showed an increase in cadres’ knowledge and skills, with the mean score rising from 48.2 to 70.2. Additionally, there was an improvement in family understanding in RW 09 from 44.1 to 67.3 and in RW 14 from 44.0 to 63.7. These findings indicate that community empowerment through training and mentoring is effective in enhancing family preparedness to manage toddler drowning emergencies during floods. Continuous efforts are needed to strengthen the role of cadres and ensure the sustainability of the program.
