Abstract

Background: A food handler is someone who directly handles food and its equipment, starting from the preparation, processing, transportation, and serving processes, and ending with serving food. The impact of unhygienic food consumption is the risk of foodborne diseases. In Sanggrahan Hamlet, a lack of knowledge was found regarding food handlers, tips for assessing safe and healthy food to eat, and food poisoning. The purpose of this activity is to increase public knowledge about food handlers, tips for assessing safe and healthy food to eat, and food poisoning.

Method: Community service was carried out by providing health education to 30 female participants aged 60 years and over in Saggrahan Hamlet. The method used was a pre-test-post-test design. The implementation activity consisted of two stages, namely: preparation and implementation. Results: This community service activity went smoothly, as evidenced by the desire to maintain health, demonstrated by the mothers' enthusiasm for participating in the counseling. There was an increase in knowledge about food handlers and tips for choosing healthy foods, as well as an increase in food poisoning. Meanwhile, feedback obtained during the activity indicated active participation through questions and answers and sharing of impressions.Conclusion: There was an increase in knowledge and high enthusiasm among participants in the counseling. Participants understood food hygiene, tips for assessing safe and healthy food, and food poisoning.
