Chronic kidney failure (CKD) is a public health problem whose prevalence continues to increase along with the increase in risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and anemia. Low public knowledge about risk factors and CKD prevention efforts contributes to delays in the detection and treatment of this disease.
This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness about the prevention of chronic kidney failure
through health education and free screening activities in Pliken Village, Banyumas Regency.
The implementation method consisted of two stages: a health examination, which included blood pressure measurements using an aneroid sphygmomanometer and hemoglobin levels using a digital hemoglobinometer. Furthermore, health education was provided through lectures, interactive discussions, and leaflet distribution. Twenty-five participants, including members of the general public, health workers, and the elderly, participated in this activity.
Screening results showed that 44% of participants had pre-hypertension and 16% had stage 1 hypertension, while hemoglobin testing indicated that 44% had varying degrees of anemia. Knowledge evaluation using pre- and post-tests showed an increase in knowledge scores from 58% to 88%, a 30-point increase. These results demonstrate that health education and early screening are effective in increasing public knowledge and awareness regarding CKD prevention. This activity is expected to encourage changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors
