Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus (DM) are non-communicable diseases with increasing prevalence in Indonesia. The lack of public awareness of early detection is a major challenge in preventing long-term complications. This community service activity aims to raise community awareness and knowledge about the importance of early detection of hypertension and DM through blood pressure and random blood sugar (GDA) checks. The activity was carried out in Gondangmanis Village, Kudus, Central Java, involving 30 residents as participants. The methods included health education, blood pressure and GDA checks, and group discussions. Results showed that 34% of participants had blood pressure above normal, and 28% had blood sugar levels that exceeded normal limits. After the educational intervention, there was a 45% increase in community knowledge based on pre- and post-test results. In addition, participants showed high enthusiasm and increased awareness to conduct regular check-ups. Thus, a community-based approach through education and simple screening proved effective in raising community awareness of the importance of early detection of hypertension and DM.
