Adolescent girls are more susceptible to anemia due to monthly blood
loss during menstruation. This condition increases the risk of
pregnancy and childbirth complications and may even lead to
mortality. One of the primary contributors to anemia is prolonged and
excessive menstrual bleeding. Additionally, limited awareness of
menstrual patterns and hemoglobin levels further elevates the risk.
Therefore, early detection is essential for prevention and for raising
awareness about reproductive health. This community engagement
program aims to empower adolescent girls in the early detection of
anemia by monitoring menstrual patterns and hemoglobin levels. The
study employed a participatory approach, consisting of awareness
campaigns, health education, and screenings. Screening involved
interviews about menstrual cycles and hemoglobin measurements
using simple tools. A total of 72 adolescent girls participated in this
program. Results showed that participants with irregular menstrual
patterns were more likely to experience mild anemia compared to
those who were non-anemic, moderately anemic, or severely anemic. These findings suggest a correlation between menstrual
patterns and hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls. This program is
expected to enhance awareness and knowledge about anemia
prevention through menstrual health monitoring, a balanced diet,
and a healthy lifestyle.
